Descriere

The European bee-eater (Merops apiaster) is one of the most richly-coloured native Romanian bird species. It is one of the latest returning migratory bird. The bee-eater is protected, Natura 2000 species, it lives and nests colonially in loess or sandy walls. It feeds on insects, and as suggested by its name, it eats bees as well, although not as much as commonly believed. In Sălaj it can be seen in many places, it even nests in the region.
